As the first rays of sunrise peeked over the horizon, Ixelmann took a deep breath of the morning air and smiled. For as long as he remembered, the Avian had never missed a single sunrise ever since his wings grew strong enough to carry him. His mighty red wings now flapped effortlessly as he watched the massive golden orb rise slowly. It was a new morning, and it was time to hunt.

Ixelmann's trained eyes scanned the forest beneath him like an eagle looking for it's first meal of the day. Rabbit. Mole. Pigeon. Rabbit. He sighed, knowing that those morsels would have made excellent eating, but also knew that he was to bring enough venision to feed his family. Another rabbit peeked out of its burrow. Another butterfly struggled out of it's chrysalis. All of a sudden, he caught sight of something out of the corner of his eye. A full grown doe had came out of it's brush. The avian swooped down like an arrow.

There was a tiny yelp, and a small flash of blood that sprayed across the brush. Ixelmann pulled his Katars out of the sheaths of flesh that he made in the doe's stomach and neck. Wiping them with some leaves, he gently slid them back into their scabbards that he wore on his hips. As he lifted the freshly killed deer onto his shoulder to carry home to his mountain-top city, Ixelmann realized that the ground was trembling. What could he have missed out? he asked to himself.

The ground burst open. Rock peppered Ixelmann as he shot into the air with a mighty beat of his wings. A spiked burrower had attempted to stake its claim on the doe and intended to take the proud avian with it. His tunic was a mess of blood and guts, but they were luckily not his. The burrower had chewed off half of the doe, without even scratching Ixelmann. The Avian grimaced at the loss of a full meal, but grudgingly accepted the trade-off for the safety of his limbs as he flew back to his home city of Avios.
